Youth, Housing and Theatre take first Equity Partnership LGB Awards

Three delighted award winners display their trophies
The first Equity Partnership LGB Awards were presented on 25th February to representatives of the three groups which received the most votes from Equity Partnership members.

There were a total of 19 groups and individuals nominated for an award.
Mayor lends grace and fun to our opening

Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Hawaran Hussain, cuts the ribbon to open new offices and training facilities for the Equity Partnership. To her left trustees Jan Smithies, chair of the partnership's buildings sub-group responsible for masterminding the expansion, Ruth Middleton, chair of the Partnership and Georgina Webster, vice-chair. Members and guests look on.
Councillor Hawaran not only lent style and dignity to the proceedings, demonstrating a keen understanding of and support for diversity but, 'stealing' a hat from one of the guests, she added fun too as she unveiled a collage by local artist Terry Hardie. The collage depicts the LGB scene venues of Bradford and the Equity Centre as a place of meeting, activity and safety for members of Bradford's LGB communities.

The opening of the new facilities on 6 November doubled the space available to other organisations for meetings and events and will allow the Equity Centre to include its own kitchen and toilet for people with disabilities, making it truly accessible to all.
